Within the wide range of formwork systems used in monolithic construction nowadays crane dependant and slip (self-climbing) types of formwork are distinguished between them by its high quality, simplicity in use and economical profitability. They are used to erect different types of buildings such as tall bridge piers, silos of cement plants, industrial chimneys and constructions of cylinder, cubic, conic shapes.
Climbing formwork:
- Crane-dependent – the forms are lifted with the help of one or two cranes.
- Slip (self –climbing) – panels are moved vertically be special lifting device, usually hydraulic jack, fixed to holding points in the cast concrete. The obvious advantage here is that this system can be used under windy weather conditions as no crane is needed for lifting.
